In 2003, Sonia Blue suffered a stroke that left her with  profound dysphagia. For six and a half years, Sonia was unable to eat or drink anything by mouth and relied solely on tube-feeding.

In episode 197, I have the honor of talking with Sonia and Jan Pryor. Jan is one of the SLPs she credits with helping rehabilitate her swallow, but more importantly she held space for Sonia’s grief and showed empathy when it meant the most. Together, they have a candid conversation about survivorship and dysphagia.
